Orthodontics for Children
When you bring your child in to see a pediatric orthodontist in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico, you'll find great benefits, such as prevention and early detection of any issues.
The American Association of Orthodontists urges all parents to bring their children to be evaluated by a trained orthodontic specialist by age seven. So when your child visits our pediatric orthodontist, you begin the process of giving him or her the advantages of a lifelong healthy smile.
The Benefits of Two-Phase Orthodontic Treatment
Dr. Farnsworth, Dr. Brimhall, Dr. Shelley, and Dr. Sorensen can both straighten your child's teeth and align their jaw with little to no invasive treatment through our two-phase orthodontic treatment. This treatment works by guiding your child's growth before their jaw has fully developed, ensuring that your child has a healthy and attractive smile.
Children aged seven and older with issues such as teeth crowding or a misaligned jaw are candidates for early treatment. As we all know, children grow rapidly, and guiding the alignment of the upper and lower jaws is easier than trying to correct a jaw after it is already grown.
Early orthodontic treatment sets a good foundation that provides sufficient room for your child's permanent teeth.
Additionally, two-phase orthodontic treatment can also prevent the need for later removal of permanent teeth to correct overcrowding or surgical procedures to align the upper and lower jaws.
The Importance of Early Evaluation
Bringing your child in for early evaluation does not necessarily mean treatment is involved. During the visit, one of our doctors will take the opportunity to examine your child's bite and jaw alignment.
This enables him to see if any preventative treatment is needed that could reduce the severity or expense of treatment after all of your child's adult teeth have grown in. In most cases, parents who take their child in for an early evaluation leave with peace of mind, knowing that orthodontic treatment can wait - or won't be needed at all.
If your child does need early treatment, our pediatric orthodontist will follow the process below.
Give Your Child a Beautiful Smile in Two Phases
During the first phase, certain appliances, determined on a case-by-case basis, will be used to assist in developing your child's jaw size to accommodate his or her permanent teeth and to align the upper and lower jaws.
In the second phase, when your child's permanent teeth are in, wearing braces is typically required for up to two years, followed by retainers to ensure lasting results.
When each tooth has an exact location in the mouth that is in line with the lips, cheeks, tongue, and other teeth, your child's teeth will function together correctly, and your child will have a healthy, beautiful smile!

Orthodontics for Teens
On average, teens in and around Lubbock, San Angelo, Carlsbad, Clovis, & Hobbs will likely benefit from beginning orthodontic treatment between the ages of 11-16.
Experts such as Dr. Farnsworth, Dr. Brimhall, Dr. Shelley, and Dr. Sorensen will quickly identify and develop custom treatment plans to deal with spacing, crowding, bite, and alignment issues at these ages.
Importantly, the bone and jaw of teens between 11 and 16 are mature enough to ensure that you or your teen gets the most out of treatment!
Here at Farnsworth Family Orthodontics, your teen will work with our expert doctors to pinpoint the best choice of either Invisalign clear aligners, metal braces, or clear ceramic braces. They'll work together to find the perfect fit to unlock your teen's full smile potential.
Orthodontics for Adults
With 25% of the over 4 million new orthodontic treatment cases in the USA over the age of 21, there's no excuse for adults in Lubbock, San Angelo, Carlsbad, Clovis, Hobbs, or the surrounding areas to live with anything but the best version of your smile!
While the majority of natural dental drift DOES occur in the teen years, there are PLENTY of reasons for adult orthodontic treatment!
Did you know that your teeth continue to drift into adulthood? Or that more than 50% of former braces patients experience relapse (most commonly due to not using your retainer! Hint, hint).
Ignoring misalignment can lead to jaw pain, trouble brushing, or an unsatisfactory appearance. Teeth misalignment can be the precursor to a host of other issues, such as tooth decay, gum disease, or even excess wear and tear and chewing issues!
Your friendly neighborhood experts are perfectly capable of dealing with these issues or any others that might come up! They'll leave you looking and feeling 110%, no matter where (or how old) you are!
Not only that, but modern orthodontics offers a wide range of options that stress low-profile treatment, so braces or aligners are more unobtrusive to your lifestyle than ever.
