Pediatric Orthodontics in Levelland, TX
Experience Compassionate Care At Our Office
There are many benefits of bringing your child in to see a pediatric orthodontist in Levelland, TX, including early prevention and detection of dental and orthodontic issues. The American Association of Orthodontists urges all parents to bring their children to be evaluated by a trained orthodontic specialist at the age of seven. This ensures that, when your child visits our pediatric orthodontist, you begin the process of giving him or her the advantages of a lifelong healthy smile!
Benefits of Early Evaluations
When you bring your child in for an early evaluation, it doesn’t necessarily mean that treatment will be involved. During the visit, our pediatric orthodontist will take the opportunity to examine your child’s bite and jaw alignment. Through this, we will be able to see if any preventive treatment is needed to reduce the severity or expense of treatment after all of your child’s adult teeth have grown in. In most cases, parents who take their child in for an early evaluation leave with peace of mind, knowing that orthodontic treatment can wait or won’t be needed at all. If your child does need early treatment, our pediatric orthodontist will follow the process below.
Benefits of Early Treatments
Through our two-phase orthodontic treatment, our pediatric orthodontist can both straighten your child’s teeth and align their jaw with little to no invasive treatment. This treatment guides your child’s growth before their jaw has fully developed, ensuring that your child has a healthy, straight smile.
Children aged seven and older who have issues such as teeth crowding or a misaligned jaw are candidates for early treatment. As we all know, children grow rapidly and guiding the alignment of the upper and lower jaws is easier than trying to correct a jaw after it is already grown. Early orthodontic treatment provides a good foundation with sufficient room for your child’s permanent teeth to grow in.
Additionally, two-phase orthodontic treatment can also prevent later removal of permanent teeth to correct overcrowding and/or surgical procedures to align the upper and lower jaws.
How Does Two-Phase Treatment Work?
During the first phase, certain appliances (which are determined on a case-by-case basis), will be used to assist in developing your child’s jaw size to accommodate their permanent teeth and to align the upper and lower jaws.
In the second phase, when your child’s permanent teeth have grown in, wearing braces is typically required for up to two years, followed by retainers to ensure lasting results. When each tooth has an exact location in the mouth that is in line with the cheeks, tongue, lips, and all other teeth, your child’s teeth will function together correctly and your child will have a healthy, ideal smile!
